2018 Destin Florida Red Snapper Season
2018 Destin Florida Red Snapper Season
Finally, the 2018 Florida Red Snapper Season is almost here, and aboard the charter boat Destination we couldn’t be more ready! We have certainly enjoyed some great Spring fishing catching lots of big triggerfish, plenty of vermillion snapper and even a few amberjack, but nothing says summer like KEEPING red snapper.
Florida Red Snapper Season for charter boats will be June 1st thru July 21st
There is generally a lot of confusion regarding red snapper season, and this year is no different. The States have taken over the regulation of red snapper for those recreational fishermen who fish aboard their own vessels, and each of the 5 gulf states has its’ own distinct season. However, all federally permitted charter boats like the Destination are still managed by the federal government and have the same season regardless of the state they call home. So, red snapper season will be 51 days beginning on June 1st and ending at midnight on July 21st if you are fishing aboard a federally permitted charter boat. The bag limit will remain at 2 fish per angler with a minimum size limit of 16 inches total length.
Make your reservation now

The Legalities of Amberjack Fishing
After having almost no amberjack season for the last couple of years, we are really excited about the upcoming spring season. The entire month of May anglers will be allowed 1 fish per person with a minimum size limit of 34 inches. The spring season will close on June 1st and a fall season will begin on August 1st and run thru October 31st(hopefully). We recommend at least an 8 hour trip to target amberjack. Of course trips of 10 or 12 hours will often result in larger and more plentiful fish.

Fall in Destin always begins with the Destin Seafood Festival. It’s a local tradition.
This year, the 37th Annual Destin Seafood Festival will officially begin on Friday, October 4th at four o’clock, and will run throughout the weekend, showcasing some of the best seafood Destin has to offer.
Destin’s seafood festival tradition began in 1978, founded by the Charter Boat Association’s Women’s Auxiliary as a fundraiser for the local fisherman, and a way to attract visitors to the area. Thirty-seven years later the Destin Charter Boat Association carries on the tradition, and the festival has grown into a huge celebration of Destin’s rich marine heritage.
Over sixty-thousand people are expected to attend this year, for the most amazing local seafood, live music, fireworks, arts, crafts, and all around family fun.
The weekend of October 16-19, is one of the South’s most celebrated festivals, The 39th Annual Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival, in the neighboring town of Niceville.
Back in the days when the small town of Niceville was a nice little fishing village known as Boggy Bayou, local fisherman relied substantially on mullet, and poled flat-bottomed skiffs on the bay at night, listened for the jumping fish, and cast their nets. The mullet was then salted and preserved in fish barrels, and sold or traded to farmers from Florida and Alabama for vegetables.
This family friendly festival celebrating the mullet, and old Boggy Bayou traditions, was named one of the top 12 food festivals in the nation, and boasts three days of jam-packed fun with a large selection of food, including mullet, unique handmade arts and crafts, fun amusement rides and games, and top-notch musical entertainment.
